without comments

by Virginia Pipolini

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have made it official, the Swine Flu is officially a concern. According to the World Health Organization we are at a phase 5 worldwide pandemic alert.

This flu is of the type A/H1N1, which is the type that is spread via coughing or sneezing, spreading airborne droplets of liquid. Is it contagious? Yes, most definitely, as is any other strain of influenza.

If you are thinking that the best course of action is to change your diet and avoid eating pork products, lets clear up that point. You cannot contract swine flu from pork meat, but remember with any meats to cook at appropriate heats to the recommended temperature. Restrict your contact with live pigs, though, for you can contract this illness from a live pig.

How then do we protect ourselves from the swine flu? One of the most recommended is always to wash your hands often, especially before meals or handling of food. Do you need to wear one of those facial masks? No, that is not needed but can be considered if you are caretaking. Bottom line though, it is difficult to avoid an airborne virus.

The symptoms of the swine flu are very much like those of any flu. You can expect a combination of any of these symptoms: coughing, aching body, high fever, a runny nose, headache or fatigue. You can call your doctor for recommendations if you have those symptoms and are concerned. With the swine flu we should pay attention. Word is out that its not just the young and old who are susceptible.

Many of us choose to get flu vaccines each year, but the bad news is the shot you received this year does not cover the swine flu. Each year the health authorities have to choose which vaccine to produce, and it takes at least six months for a new vaccine to be developed.

We are only beginning to see the effects of swine flu, and the future is uncertain. The bird flu resulted in over 250 deaths in twelve countries, and killed millions of birds. Is there any hope in defending ourselves from the swine flu?

There are measures we can take in our daily lives to create a cleaner healthier environment, thereby reducing the risk of contracting any flu virus. Eating a healthy diet helps promote a stronger immune system. Anti-oxidants also support and promote better health. Using natural anti-bacterial and anti-viral supplements, both in your environment and in your personal health and hygiene, can wipe out a virus or flu before it takes hold.

Water purification drops have been used for decades to treat water resources and reduce mold and mildew, such as the cleanup after hurricane Katrina. Learn more about the effectiveness of chlorine dioxide in its many uses in our home and our health. Swine flu is a virus, and we can fight back with a powerful anti-virus water treatment program.
