These days it is commonplace to have aches and pains. Pain is a natural response to over use of our muscles. But what about the pain that does not go away, no matter what you do. Many of us are sufferers of chronic subtle pain, and a great deal of our energy is consumed in trying to block it out.

What causes this low grade pain, and how do we get rid of it? This is a billion dollar question, and believe me we have every player in this game ranging from drug companies, practitioners, and food manufacturers to subtle energy practitioners.

There are many programs available these days for the treatment of chronic pain conditions. Traditional therapies include physical therapy, occupational therapy and medications. Holistic program include acupuncture, yoga, nutritional changes, and breathing exercises.

In a study conducted at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a team of health care professionals treated chronic low back pain using naturopathic practices. The treatment included deep breathing exercises, acupuncture, and dietary supplementation such as omega 3 fatty acids, calcium, and magnesium.(1)

Half the group was treated with conventional physiotherapy methods and half with naturopathic methods. What they found in this treatment of chronic low back pain is that those treated with naturopathic methods had a greater reduction in pain than those treated by the conventional physical therapy modalities.

When we delve into the nutritional value of minerals such as magnesium, we find that there are over 300 body functions that are dependent on magnesium. Unfortunately half of our population is deficient in magnesium. Low magnesium levels can lead to many health issues, such as muscle cramps and chronic pain. (2)

There is no measure of how long it takes to create a condition such as chronic pain, and likewise there is no magic bullet that will lift us from its clutches. Perhaps if we focus on some of the more basic elements, such as diet and nutrition, we might see progress in our plea for pain release. Most of our western culture diets are loaded with foods that promote imbalance in our bodies. The human body is designed to have a protein breaking acid balance in the stomach, but further on, in the intestinal tract, our body is meant to have an alkaline balance. This balance is important in breaking down and assimilating our foods.

Our PH is important. When we tip the scales to the acidic side we crave more of those foods that created havoc in the first place.

Did you know that the human body is host to an average of two pounds of parasitic bacteria and other host-dependent organisms? Before you cringe, hang on, some of that is the beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract that you rely on to digest your food. Now the flip side: if you eat a typical western diet you likely host some non-beneficial organisms. That can include fungi, yeast in the form of candida, even parasites. We typically acquire those host-reliant free-loaders because of an imbalance or high toxin level in our body.

If would seem, therefore, that staying up all night with no or little sleep when cramming for an exam would be counter productive. It is probably better to start studying days before the test and get a good nights sleep right before the test.

A University of California, San Diego psychiatry study of over one million adults found that those who lived the longest self-reported sleeping for six to seven hours each night. Our guess is that they gave their bodies a chance to recoup every 24 hours. That is, they did not wear out the bod quickly.

Researchers from University College London and the University of Warwick and have discovered that lack of sleep can more than double the risk of death from cardiovascular disease. However, too much sleep can also double the risk of death. Moderation in everything should be your motto.

Also, sleep difficulties are closely associated with psychiatric disorders such as depression, alcoholism and bipolar disorder. Up to 90% of depression patients are found to have sleep difficulties.

Many sleep deprived folks dont want to pop a pill. Some say that they might be asleep, but they feel they are not getting real or natural sleep. Perhaps, they still feel the dregs of tiredness after artificial sleep.

Well, there are ways to get to and stay asleep in a very natural way. However, it is beyond the scope of this article to go into treatment of sleep deprivation.

Most people who have not tried alternative medicine think it is just a scam. That it does not work, that there are no studies to back up those claims.

One of the most important factors in the health of any person is their diet, and diet includes water. Despite the fact that you ought to be drinking clean drinking water the majority of Americans aren’t.
